This work is a valuable contribution to the study of Jihadist ideology. It sets out clearly how the ideology developed from the early writings of Sayyid Qutb and discusses the role and importance of a range of Islamic ideas and terminology. Examples of some of the issues dealt with in the book are: The Dar al-Harb, Ijtihad, the crucial concept of Jahiliyya, Jihad, Naskh, Sharia, the Sunna, and Takfir. This work could be read in conjunction with Sivan's work Radical Islam and Bergesen's Sayyid Qutb Reader. Knowing the Enemy is of great value to anyone wanting to know more about Jihadist Ideology.
